Exilion, the owner of Mustilankangas wind farm in Kalajoki, has signed an agreement with Caverion for the technical maintenance service for Mustilankangas wind farm, covering preventive and corrective maintenance of the wind turbines and the park's electricity distribution. The wind farm will be under Caverion's supervision 24 hours a day every day of the year. The agreement will take place by summer 2026. The companies will not disclose the value of the contract. Caverion hires maintenance technicians for permanent employment in Kalajoki.
In addition to the Kalajoki wind farm, Caverion is responsible for example maintenance of the Tervola Varevaara wind farm, owned by Exilion. This successful partnership for Tervola wind farm led to even stronger cooperation now for Kalajoki wind farm.
"We wanted to expand the technical maintenance partnership with Caverion. In Tervola, we’ve had a good experience of the cooperation, the level of service and quality. For us, the key criteria when choosing a partner are comprehensive domestic management of the wind farm and a responsible and safe operating method", says Eero Länsimäki, Operations Manager of Exilion.
The agreement strengthens the development of Finnish wind power expertise
Renewable energy has become a significant part of Finnish energy production. There are 215 wind farms and 1,835 wind turbines in Finland. In 2024, wind power was the second largest form of electricity production, generating 19.8 terawatt hours (TWh). Exilion has 15 wind farms, which generated approximately 1 TWh of electricity last year.
Maintenance and upkeep of wind farms ensures that the power plants produce energy as efficiently as possible.
"We are very pleased that Exilion has the courage to challenge the common known operating models in the industry. Together we have the opportunity to develop Finnish wind power expertise and the entire industry forward. Our goal is to maximize the energy production of Kalajoki wind farm throughout its entire life cycle and at the same time act as transparently as possible towards Exilion", says Kari Koivikko, Head of District, Renewable Energy Services at Caverion.
Koivikko says that as a builder and maintainer of clean energy infrastructure, the company has gained a very deep understanding over the years of both the needs and requirements of companies and the functioning of the electricity market, i.e. the dynamics of production, consumption and distribution. This allows the company to effectively plan service and maintenance schedules.
